Gluten Free Cinnamon Apple Sourdough Focaccia
Welcome fall with some of my favorite autumnal flavors, cinnamon and apple.
Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
George Eliot
We are finally having some cooler weather here in northern Colorado and I am here for it! The transition to warming foods is my absolute favorite. I love soup season and I’m always inspired to bake more breads and baked goods when the weather cools. I do have to say, I’m not a fan of PSL and the frenzy it seems to create, but I do love the warming spices that accompany autumn. Instead of pumpkin spice everything, I will always choose apples and cinnamon. Give me a warm bowl of homemade spiced applesauce, a steaming cup of spiced cider, apple pie, apple crisp and now. . .this GF Cinnamon Apple Sourdough Focaccia.
This focaccia is not too sweet, but sweet enough to feel indulgent. Its edges get a lovely caramelized crust, while the middle is pillowy soft and studded with the sharp flavor of apple and the warming flavor of cinnamon. It is perfect for breakfast with a hot cup of coffee. Also, you will find this focaccia to be lovely with a steaming cup of tea in the afternoon. If you are looking for a dessert that won’t leave you with a sugar high after dinner, this recipe should be added to your favorites folder.
